What do you use Steel Zip Ties for?

Stainless Steel Metal & Metal Detectable Zip Ties — what are they used for?

Stainless steel zip ties and metal detectable zip ties are premium fastening solutions built for the most demanding environments. From aerospace to food manufacturing, these ties deliver performance where standard nylon cannot.

What are stainless steel zip ties made from?

GTSE's range of stainless steel zip ties are constructed from flame retardant 316 stainless steel, which provides additional resistance to corrosion, chemicals and harsh environmental conditions. These ties withstand high operating temperatures up to +1004°F, making them suitable for extreme environments. They offer tensile strength up to a minimum of 352 lbs when looped and secured.

Due to their enhanced resistance and durability, stainless steel zip ties work well for indoor, outdoor, and underground applications across automotive, industrial, mining, and chemical plant industries. Available options include PVC or epoxy coatings for enhanced strength and scratch resistance.

Note: It is advised not to use stainless steel zip ties in applications where they come into contact with galvanised steel, as the two metals may react. Coated variants solve this problem.

How do you use stainless steel zip ties?

These ties feature a self-locking mechanism with an internal locking ball. To secure, insert the tail into the locking mechanism, which can be tightened by hand or using a specialist tool. The tool fastens ties with your chosen tightness and automatically removes the excess material from the tail without leaving sharp edges.

Stainless steel zip ties are single-use and cannot be released and reused.

What sizes are stainless steel zip ties?

Lengths range from 5.9" to 47", with widths from 0.18" to 0.31". Generally, wider ties offer higher tensile strength, making them appropriate for heavier duty applications.

What are metal detectable zip ties?

Metal detectable zip ties are nylon ties with metal content spread evenly throughout to allow for detection by metal scanning equipment. Their metallic blue color also enables quick visual identification.

These ties are well suited to food, pharmaceutical, medical, dental, and chemical industries where detection of foreign bodies is critical. They are manufactured to V2 UL94 fire standards, with water absorption up to 8% and operating temperatures up to +212°F. They are suitable for HACCP processes used in food production manufacturing.
